Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
