'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith continues contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match ended with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear amid the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range strike from outside the box, and his teammate immediately slammed home the deflection before racing off toward the crowd to celebrate, with fans mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

This completed an incredible recovery given Swansea had been behind 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator shouting out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result booked a fourth-round game at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's volley from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that far out," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right defensive wing after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team approached the match.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they know how to manage and slow down a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even seeing. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and attention just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a fans' favourite across two seasons at his former club and has quickly replicated that in his new home. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was likely a slightly green going into men's football. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without much intensity. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that growth for club and country, excelling for his national side, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the last several matches, including two matches encounters against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This marks quite the ride for the player from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

His sole appearance for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was closed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "This represented a long trip and it was chilly," he comments, grinning. "The preceding week, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I knew I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it got to the point where I thought I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

New Environment

This occurs during the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to socialize with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. His teammate is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would blend in with fans on the Tube after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
