19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial title after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since that period of that year.

Success also signifies he has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
